We lost my sweet grandmother this week. I would have thought I was more prepared since she was 93, but I'm realizing that doesn't matter. She broke her hip (reaching for a drink in her fridge) on Sunday night, and opted to risk a surgery instead of being bedridden for the remainder of her life. Well, I saw her Monday, the day of her surgery, and she was as sharp as ever....listening so intently to me talk about the boys. She was in ICU, and so the boys had to wait in the waiting room, but she smiled when I talked about them. The last thing I said was "I love you" as I was heading out to get the boys lunch...and she pointed at me and said very intently "I love you"....and that was it.... her heart couldn't take the strain of the surgery, and that is the last thing I will remember her saying until I see her in heaven. I didn't even think twice when I left that day...grandmom is so strong, and I just didn't think that would be the last time I saw her. But, Andy reminded me that the Lord really blessed her because she never had to "eeke out" (as Andy so delicately put it)....her mind was sharp and alert -- and she truly lived a full life...but the Lord called her home, and she didn't have to suffer, she just went to sleep and never woke up...so for that, I'm so grateful....
While we were looking thru old pictures, we stumbled across this wedding picture of my parents and her....thought it was pretty funny....:):) Especially since it looks like Grandmom is the focal point of the photo...silly photographer....the bride and groom always go in the middle!!!!
